Privacy Policy

Effective Date: July 19, 2026

Summary: Road Shield processes your location entirely on your device to warn you about speed cameras. We do not collect, store, or transmit your location to our servers. The Meta (Facebook) SDK is included only to measure App Store promotion campaigns (installs and app opens). Location is never shared with Meta. Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt controls whether the advertising identifier (IDFA) may be used. Other network use is limited to downloading the public speed camera database and Apple services (Maps, StoreKit, iCloud, WatchConnectivity).

Rekaverse ("we", "us", or "our") built Road Shield ("the App") as a commercial application. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected, how it is used, and your choices regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Location Data

Road Shield requires access to your device's GPS location to function. Location data is used exclusively on your device to calculate your proximity to speed cameras and provide timely alerts.

  • When-in-use location: Used while the app is open and a drive session is active.
  • Background location: Used to continue monitoring for cameras when the app is in the background during an active drive. Background location access is only active during a drive session that you explicitly start.

Your location data is never transmitted to our servers or any third party, including Meta. It is processed in real time on your device and is not stored permanently. When you end a drive session or close the app, location data is discarded from memory.

1.2 Speed Camera Database

The App periodically downloads a database of speed camera locations, enforcement zones, and speed limits from our server. This request is a standard HTTP GET request and does not include any personal data, device identifiers, or location information. Only the camera database content is transferred to your device.

1.3 Driving Statistics

The App tracks aggregated driving statistics locally on your device, including:

  • Total number of drives completed
  • Total distance driven (km)
  • Total cameras encountered
  • Estimated fines avoided
  • Speed ticket history (camera name, speed, limit, fine amount)

These statistics are computed entirely on your device from your driving sessions. Individual drive routes, GPS tracks, and location histories are not recorded or stored.

1.4 Saved Places

You may optionally save locations (home, work, favorites) for navigation. These are stored locally on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple's encrypted iCloud Key-Value Store. Saved places are not transmitted to our servers.

1.5 Profile Information

The App may read your name and profile photo from your device's Contacts "Me" card to personalize the Account screen. This data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted externally. Contact access is optional and the App functions fully without it.

1.6 Subscription Information

Subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple's StoreKit framework. We do not operate our own payment server. Apple processes all payment information according to Apple's Privacy Policy. We only receive a confirmation of your subscription status (active/expired) and the plan type from Apple's on-device transaction system.

1.7 Meta (Facebook) App Events and Campaign Measurement

Road Shield includes the Meta Facebook SDK (FacebookCore) so we can run and measure App Store promotion campaigns in Meta Ads Manager / Meta Business Suite. This is used for app-install advertising measurement only.

When the App launches, the SDK may automatically log standard app events such as app install and app open (ActivateApp). Apple’s SKAdNetwork framework may also provide aggregated, privacy-preserving install attribution to Meta for campaigns that use Meta’s SKAdNetwork identifiers.

  • Advertising identifier (IDFA): Collected or used for advertiser tracking only if you allow tracking in Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt. If you select “Ask App Not to Track” or deny tracking, the App configures the Meta SDK so advertiser tracking is disabled and Meta receives limited / aggregated measurement only.
  • Device and usage signals: The Meta SDK may process technical signals needed for campaign measurement (for example, app events and attribution-related identifiers consistent with Meta’s and Apple’s platforms). These are not used to build a map of your drives.
  • Location: Your GPS location is never sent to Meta and is never used for Meta advertising.
  • No Facebook Login or social features: The App does not use Facebook Login, does not post to Facebook or Instagram on your behalf, and does not require a Meta account.

Meta’s handling of this data is governed by the Meta Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

Road Shield does not use product-analytics, crash-reporting, or in-app advertising networks. The only third-party advertising measurement SDK is Meta FacebookCore, used solely for App Store campaign attribution as described in section 1.7.

  • No product analytics SDKs: We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar product-analytics services.
  • No in-app ads: We do not display banner, interstitial, or rewarded ads, and we do not use AdMob or similar ad networks inside the App.
  • No crash reporting to third parties: We do not use Crashlytics, Sentry, Bugsnag, or similar services.
  • No location history: We do not record, store, or transmit a history of your locations or routes.
  • No user accounts on our servers: The App does not require you to create a Rekaverse account, provide an email address, or sign in to use core features.
  • No camera or microphone access: The App does not access your camera or microphone.

3. How We Use Information

Data Purpose Stored Where
GPS location Real-time camera proximity detection and alerts Device memory only (not persisted)
Camera database Providing accurate camera locations and speed limits Device local storage (Core Data)
Driving statistics Showing your driving summary and ticket history Device + iCloud (if enabled)
Saved places Quick navigation to your frequent destinations Device + iCloud (if enabled)
Profile name/photo Personalizing the Account screen Device only
Subscription status Unlocking premium features Device only (via Apple StoreKit)
Meta App Events / IDFA (if allowed) Measure App Store installs and opens from Meta ads Processed by Meta; IDFA only with ATT consent
SKAdNetwork attribution Aggregated install attribution for Meta campaigns Apple / Meta aggregated reporting

4. iCloud Sync

If you have iCloud enabled on your device, the following data may be synced across your Apple devices via Apple's encrypted iCloud Key-Value Store:

  • Aggregated driving statistics (total drives, distance, cameras encountered)
  • Saved places (home, work, favorites, recent destinations)
  • Your profile display name

iCloud data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple. We do not have access to your iCloud data. This sync is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can disable iCloud sync for the App in your device's iCloud settings.

5. Apple Watch

If you use Road Shield on Apple Watch, real-time driving data (speed, distance to camera, alert status) is shared between your iPhone and Apple Watch using Apple's WatchConnectivity framework. This communication occurs directly between your paired devices and does not pass through any external server.

6. Apple Maps

When you use the navigation feature, the App uses Apple's MapKit framework to calculate routes. Route requests are sent to Apple Maps and are subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not operate our own routing or mapping server.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share limited measurement data with Meta only as described in section 1.7, and only for App Store campaign attribution. Your location is never shared with Meta.

External data transmissions made by the App are:

  1. Downloading the speed camera database from our server (no personal data sent)
  2. iCloud sync of statistics and saved places (Apple-managed, encrypted)
  3. Apple Maps route calculation requests (Apple-managed)
  4. Apple StoreKit subscription verification (Apple-managed)
  5. Meta App Events and SKAdNetwork attribution for App Store promotion campaigns (no location data; IDFA only if you allow tracking)

8. Data Retention

  • Location data: Not retained. Discarded from memory when a drive session ends.
  • Driving statistics: Stored on your device (and iCloud if enabled) until you delete the App or clear its data.
  • Saved places: Stored until you delete them or uninstall the App.
  • Camera database: Updated periodically. Old data is replaced with each sync.
  • Meta measurement data: Retained by Meta according to Meta’s policies and retention practices for advertising measurement.

Uninstalling Road Shield removes all locally stored data from your device. To remove data from iCloud, go to Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Manage Storage.

9. Data Security

All data stored on your device is protected by iOS's built-in data protection and encryption. iCloud data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by Apple. The camera database download uses HTTPS encryption. Communications with Meta for campaign measurement use Meta’s secure network endpoints.

10. Children's Privacy

Road Shield is not directed at children under the age of 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App is intended for use by licensed drivers.

11. Your Rights and Choices

  • Location access: You can revoke location permission at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. The App will not function for camera alerts without location access.
  • Contacts access: You can deny or revoke Contacts permission in Settings > Privacy & Security > Contacts. The App works fully without this permission.
  • App Tracking (ATT): You can allow or deny tracking when prompted, and change your choice later in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. Denying tracking does not disable camera alerts or other core App features; it limits Meta advertiser-ID based measurement.
  • iCloud sync: You can disable iCloud sync for Road Shield in Settings > Apple Account > iCloud.
  • Delete data: Uninstalling the App removes all local data. Saved places and statistics can be deleted individually within the App.
  • Subscriptions: Manage or cancel subscriptions in Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
